No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world. - Robin Williams
It all started early 2016...
Jai Yarlagadda, a junior in high school at the time, was listening to an NPR podcast when he learned that 63% of Americans couldn't afford to pay back an emergency expense under a $1000. He knew he had to help his community of Tampa bay.
Furthermore, he learned of predatory lending, a major burden on our communities. With massive interest-rates, many hard-working families are trapped in endless debt cycles.
Together with his father, Jai founded The FairPact Foundation (now referred to as FairPact), that would help low income families in our communities find financial stability.
Later the same year,
Jai began building a team and enlisting help from professionals. The team now consisted of several individuals all wanting to help their community.
One of those members was Ryan Haczynski, a teacher at Strawberry Crest High School and one of Jai's earliest mentors. (Fun fact, he won the award for healthiest man in Tampa Bay.) He helped bring financial consulting to FairPact. Our chatbot, Ryan, is named after him.
FairPact's first Corporate partnership was with System Soft Technologies, which help significantly boost FairPact's mission through advising.
After months of planning and preparation, Jai and his team began to provide free financial consulting to individuals and families over the phone who were going through tough times.
FairPact's first loan was also given out.
By mid 2017,
Jai had been interviewed in newspapers, went on a podcast, and presented to the School Board of Hillsborough County to spread his nonprofit and message.
In the summer of 2017, Jai and FairPact had won the Shining Star Award for his county, due to his efforts to fight poverty and financial burden in Tampa Bay.
